ColegauCymru hosts PLA event for European delegates

FEBRUARY 17, 2017

ColegauCymru hosted a Peer Learning Activity for delegates from across Europe at Cardiff and Vale College on 29-30 September. As the National Coordination Point for EQAVET, ColegauCymru brought together organisations involved in VET, together with representatives from the European Commission and EQAVET secretariat.

The theme of the meeting was the important topic of placement rates in VET programmes and examined a range of approaches at system and provider level in Europe.

Iestyn Davies, Chief Executive of ColegauCymru / CollegesWales, opened the event by welcoming the delegates and provided an introduction to FE in Wales. Sharon James from CAVC discussed in her presentation how to engage with employers and the impact this has on the curriculum development. She also articulated how the college monitors and maps progression of all learners utilising Employability, Progression and Attendance Officers ( EPAs) to support, develop and track learners.

Sacha Davies from Careers Wales spoke about Careers Wales’ use of Client Destination Data. It enables, via regular updates, the ability to track and report on the progress of young people as they make the transition from year 11 through to aged 18. Sharing best practice across Europe is ley to vocational education and training in Wales. This, in addition to ColegauCymru / CollegesWales’ European and international activity demonstrates commitment to FE across Europe.

All the delegates were impressed by the facilities at CAVC and the welcome they had received in Wales.

The full report of the PLA will be available on the EQAVET website in the near future.
